Top 10 Anime Songs for the Holiday Season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year again. As fans of anime songs, I bet you are probably sick of listening to the usual Western Christmas music, traditional and classical (or the overused Christmas Station ID songs of our dear local TV networks and if you are from the Philippines, Jose Mari Chan )
Thus this list was born to give a bit of a geeky feeling while enjoying the holidays. Be prepared to feel eargasm and from Vi-Geeky, Happy Holidays!

10. Card Captor Sakura - Yoru no Uta

From the anime Christmas CD, Cardcaptor Sakura: Tomoeda Elementary school Chorus Christmas Concert. Sakura Kinomoto doesn't appear on this album at all, so the concert features Junko Iwao as Tomoyo Daidouji.

9. Detective Conan - Winter Bells

Opening 10 of the long running mystery series Detective Conan

8. Sailor Moon - Last Christmas (Sailor Mars Ver.)

Though this is definitely a Western Christmas song (for the broken hearted) and it has a lot of cover around the globe, this version is still worth listening. This is from the Sailor Moon Christmas album. It is the cover version of WHAM's performed by Michie Tomizawa, the Japanese voice of Rei Hino/Sailor Mars in Sailor Moon. This is one of only 2 songs from the Sailor Moon Christmas Albums that are sung in English (the other being White Christmas, also by Tomizawa).

7. Pokemon - Mousugu Santa ga Yattekuru!

Ending song from Pikachu's Winter Vacation 2001 OVA, from the Album: Pikachu no Fuyuyasumi Soundtrack (Pikachu's Winter Vacation Soundtrack) It was released last December 22, 2000 and sung by Mayumi Sudou

6. Shugo Chara!! - Happy Xmas

From the Character Song Album of the same series and performed by Kanae Itou (Amu Hinamori), Kana Asumi (Ran), Nanae Katou (Miki), Aki Toyosaki (Suu)

5. Macross Frontier - Merry Christmas Without You by cosmic cuune

The song is sung by May'n (Sheryl Nome's singing voice), Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee) and Frontier Stars which consisted of cast members Yūichi Nakamura, Aya Endo, Hiroshi Kamiya, Megumi Toyoguchi, Kenta Miyake, Rie Tanaka, and Kaori Fukuhara.

4. Toradora - "Holy Night" by Ami and Taiga Rie Kugimiya (Taiga) and Eri Kitamura (Ami)

Yes, I bet it is your favorite part of the Christmas episode of the series too. It was performed in episode 19 during their school’s holiday party.

3. Bakuman - We wish you a merry Christmas -Hayami Saori (Azuki Miho)

Insert song from Season 2, Episode 24 of the series! Engrish aside, her voice is just so sweet!

2. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun - White Wishes

Ending song of the awesome and cool, romantic-comedy series My Neighbor is a Monster (Read the effin’ manga!) It’s very chritmas-sy on the official MV than on the visuals of the anime ending theme!

1. Love Live! - Snow Halation

This is μ’s second single. It was released on December 22, 2010 on both a CD and Blu-ray disc, in order to celebrate the upcoming Christmas Day. It is also included in all of μ's solo albums and μ's Best Album Best Live! Collection. It was also used as an ending theme for episode 9 of Love Live! School idol project Season 2.  Source: http://love-live.wikia.com/wiki/Snow_halation
You wouldn’t dare miss this on your playlist!

Summer Anime 2017 Recommendation

3rd quarter year, as the year ends, life is getting busier each month but that doesn't stop Vi-Geeky to keep on fangirling. Here are my top picks this Summer 2017, anime aired June to August. I'm also following some left-overs from last season. This list might be few but I'm always open to suggestion.

1.  Aho Girl / アホガール

Genre: Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen

Summary: Yoshiko is a genuinely stupid girl (she can even manage to get all 0's on multiple choice tests). She hangs out at school with her childhood friend, who she claims to like, and he has to put up with all her ridiculous behavior!

(Source: MangaHelpers)

Review/Thoughts: Yoshiko is my stress-reliever during this season. If you just want all the laughs in the world, this series is a treasure.

2. Ballroom e Youkoso / ボールルームへようこそ

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School, Shounen, Sports
Summary: Feckless high school student Tatara Fujita wants to be good at something - anything. Unfortunately, he's about as average as a slouchy teen can be. The local bullies know this, and make it a habit to hit him up for cash, but all that changes when the debonair Kaname Sengoku sends them packing. Sengoku's not the neighborhood watch, though. He's a professional ballroom dancer. And once Tatara Fujita gets pulled into the world of the ballroom, his life will never be the same.

(Source: Anime News Network)

Review/ThoughtsWhat excites me with this dance sports anime is the music, it's all imagination while reading the manga. Songs in my mind were the one we practiced in college for PE class (compulsory, I don't dance. Haha) Lady in Red, quick, quick, slow... / So the anime is definitely a must watch!

3. Hajimete no Gal / はじめてのギャル

Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, School, Shounen
SummarySpring. The “season of love” has arrived and it seems that finding himself a girlfriend was harder than Junichi believed. To break the status quo, Junichi’s friends have forced him into confessing to the gyaru, Yame Yukana. However, things do not go quite as he expected. A series of "firsts" begins!

(Source: Manga-Updates)

Review/Thoughts: If I'm still in high school, this series will be the favorite of my male classmates. It's fun while it lasted.

4. Koi to Uso / 恋と嘘

Genre: Drama, Romance, School
Summary: Lies are forbidden and love is doubly forbidden. In the near future, when young people in Japan turn sixteen, they are assigned a marriage partner by the government. People don't have to go through the trouble of looking for someone, and everyone accepts that the country will find a compatible partner to make them happy. Yukari Nejima is fifteen years old. He lives in a small corner of the country, and just can't seem to get ahead in life. Both academically and athletically he's below average. But within him, he hides a heart burning with passion! In this world in which love is forbidden, what will happen to him when he falls in love?

(Source: Manga Box)

Review/Thoughts: The plot is awesome, but the series keeps getting twisted by episode but I still decided to finish it all and follow the manga because, heck, I'm still curious how it will end.

5. Konbini Kareshi / コンビニカレシ

Genre: Slice of Life, Romance
Summary: Spring. The season of beginnings.

Mishima Haruki and his friend Honda Towa begin attending Aokisora High School. While they each have a girl they're interested in, there are no signs of a relationship starting for either of them. As they awkwardly make it through each day, they meet their classmate Sasaki Nagisa and their seniors Asumi Natsu, Nakajima Mikado, Sakurakoji Masamune and others, and their thoughts and feelings begin to intertwine. It's the road everyone follows at least once, the story of a pure love racing through the moment.

The same old train.

The same old road to school.
The same old convenience store.
These static sights may, starting tomorrow, look a little bit different.

(Source: Crunchyroll)

Review/Thoughts: I'm glad it was not a harem anime. More like Nijiri Days but with different
plots and circumstances.

6. Skirt no Naka wa Kedamono Deshita. / スカートの中はケダモノでした。

Genre: Drama, Ecchi, Romance
SummaryKominami Shizuka is a mild-mannered college student who is having trouble adjusting to city life. One day, she meets Kirishima Ryou, another student who projects the image of a cool older sister. The two hit it off, but Shizuka is shocked when Ryou attempts to seduce her. Shizuka initially assumes that Ryou is a lesbian, but Ryou is in fact a man who dresses like a lady.
(Source: Crunchyroll)

Review/Thoughts: WARNING! SMUT WARNING! LOVE SCENES IS FREAKING STEAMY.
HAHA. Though it a short-form type, it was still fun to wait for the episode every week.

7. Tsuredure Children / 徒然チルドレン

Genre: Comdey, Romance, School, Shounen
Summary: To those of you out there who never could say "I love you"— This story is about ordinary highschoolers and how love makes them fired up, shaken, laugh, cry, and hurt. Whether things go well or not, this story of adolescence and romance will show you how they spend their precious youth. Every character is the main character here, and you're sure to find one you can sympathize with. Tsuredure Children's TV anime begins airing Summer 2017! Let's get our hearts racing together!
(Source: Crunchyroll)

Review/Thought: My top favorite this season. This series makes me think about my high school days and regret some things I did not do. I can't decide who is my favorite ship because every couple is adorable. I also love the manga. I don't read 4-koma that much but because of Aho Girl and Tsuredure Children, I now appreciate 4-komas. Such precious children with this series!

8. Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou / 妖怪アパートの幽雅な日常

Genre: Mystery, Slice of Life, Supernatural
Summary: Yushi Inaba is forced into an awkward living situation at his uncle's house after his parents pass away. He decides that when he goes to high school, he's going to live on his own, and finds an ultra-cheap apartment named Kotobuki-so. But it was a monster apartment, filled with monsters, humans, and ghosts! At first, Yuki doesn't know how to deal with these eerie monsters, but after spending time with these strange creatures his closed heart gradually begins to open...
(Source: Crunchyroll)

Review/Thoughts: I love every episode, I cried, I laugh. Reminds me of Natsume Yuujinchou
but with more hilarious lines.

Fall Anime Recommendation 2017

Fall season is the best season for anime viewing this year for me. I have so many series to look forward to. Here are my Top Picks this season, these titles are airing (September to December) and some will continue next year soon :)

1. 3-gatsu no Lion 2nd Season / 3月のライオン 第2期

Genre: Drama, Game Seinen, Slice of Life
Summary: Rei Kiriyama is a 17-year-old boy who recently started living alone, financed by his salary as a professional Shogi player. Despite his independence, however, he's yet to mature emotionally, and his problems continue to haunt him in his daily life. His relationship with his adoptive family is strained, and he has difficulties interacting with his fellow high school students. Meanwhile, his professional career has entered a slump. Burdened with the heavy expectations placed on him as the fifth to become pro in middle school, his wins and losses are fluctuating as his record and progression into the ranks begin to stagnate.

Acquainted with Rei are the three Kawamoto sisters: Akari, Hinata, and Momo. Unlike Rei, they live happily in their modest home, which they warmly welcome Rei into as if he were one of their own. Despite his reservations about becoming too close to the family, he frequently visits, interacting with them and receiving the kind of care and affection he never quite had while under his foster home.
This is the story of Rei's triumphs and failures, relationships new and old, and his growth as a person.
(Source: TV Tropes)

Reviews/Thoughts: I'm not interested with shogi because it looks complicated, what makes
this anime unique is the relationship with Rei and the Kawamoto sisters and other characters.
I love the transition, art style and the story itself,

2. Anime-Gataris / アニメガタリズ

Genre: Comedy, School
SummaryJust as soon as she enters Sakaneko Private High School, Asagaya Minoa is dragged into the anime club by her classmate, Kamiigusa Alice, even though she knows next to nothing about anime. Fighting off the incessant shut-down threats of the student council, and completely oblivious to the coming apocalypse, the anime club talks about anime in the club, at Akihabara, at anime Meccas, and at hot springs.
(Source: Crunchyroll)

Review/Thoughts: Different types of otaku is most likely the main topic of this series. I'm
following this one because I can relate to the characters as an anime otaku.

3. Black Clover / ブラッククローバー

Genre: Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Magic, Shounen
Summary: In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. a totally different world.
