Geeky Eats: Kawaii Cafe | Japanese Cafe

Just a bit of break for all those series, minna. We cannot function without any food, right? Eating while watching anime or sipping a cold delicious drink while reading a manga maybe the best thing out there.

So in case you happen to visit the city I'm living at right now, I recommend Kawaii Cafe here in Cebu. It's an anime-themed cafe where you can ordered anime related drinks and watch anime on their large monitor.

Kawaii Cafe – Japanese cafe located at 40 Pantaleon del Rosario St, Cebu City, in front of USC Main just beside Albertos pizza. I am a Japanophile. I like Japan not only because of the anime or manga but I love it as a whole.

It’s on my top 3 list of country to visit. Cebu has a lot of Japanese tourist, it’s like there’s a part of Japan already in Cebu, including this anime-themed cafe.

Kawaii Cafe opened last August of 2016, Shunki-san and Aldan Cristino materializes thier plans of putting up a Japanese/anime themed cafe. The place needs lots of improvement but nonetheless, the homey feel is there.

Anime songs are playing on the background and there’s also anime shown on their TV. Guests can dress up in Japanese or anime costumes for free.

They offer a variety of drinks and smoothies and their best sellers are Oreo, Kitkat and Matcha smoothies. They also have coffee, price ranges fron 90-100php. They have a new set of fresh fruit slush drinks only for 75php to 85php! Namely Hentai, Senpai  and Oppai drinks

They also have meals. My favorite is the Pika Rice.

They also have the COOK-YOUR-OWN-TAKOYAKI.

One thing commendable is their free wifi for three hours, it’s quite fast, good for downloading or people working online. Kawaii Cafe is open for at 9:00am to 11:00pm. Let's go geek out at Kawaii Cafe!

I applied for “YOUR NAME” Anime Pilgrimage Tour

Disclaimer: This is a repost. Migrated it here from Normie BlogMigrated it here to keep it organize. This was posted last January 25, 2017.

The Anime Tourism Association  came up with “Cool Japan Collaborative Demonstration Project”  in cooperation with the Japanese government as part of its Cool Japan Initiative, which aims to promote products like fashion, food, manga and anime through the worldwide appeal of “cool” Japanese culture.

It’s an all-expense paid trip that will take foreigners to sites in Tokyo and Gifu Prefecture which the hit animated film, Kimi no Nawa featured!

As a fan of the anime I wouldn’t miss the chance even if it’s .00000001 % to be chosen. I haven’t posted my review with the film yet #adultingishard but I swear to all the falling stars how much I adore the film. It’s the best film last year!

When I saw the news on facebook, thanks to rocketnews24, I immediately applied. This may be the answer to my long time dream to go to Japan, however I am crossing my fingers but I am expecting that much. I swear there will be a lot of applications.
By the way, I applied online using this link: online application form

They are accepting applications from 20 January to 28 February 2017. So if you are also a huge fan of the film, submit your application now!

The purpose of this tour is to bring foreign tourists to personally experience and enjoy the interesting sites of Japan, and to provide insightful feedback for the facilitation of tourist transportation systems in the future. Therefore, it is recommended to watch the film before joining to get the most out of this tour.

Winter Anime Recommendations 2017

Disclaimer: This is a repost. Migrated it here from Normie Blog

I can’t believe it’s already twenty seventeen. New year, new season, new anime series to look up to and I am back for my personal picks this winter season! It’s been awhile since I posted a recommendation post. Anyhow, just a disclaimer, not a critic, my aim is to give out my honest review with the chosen anime I followed. There are actually a lot of good titles this season. However, I need to prioritize and this list is what I came up with.

1.  Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou Hen

Genre:  Action, Demons, Supernatural, Fantasy, Shounen

My Review/Thoughts: The second season as well of one of my favorite shounen anime out there, the plot is just awesome because our main hero is half demon-half human, not only an ordinary demon but a son of Satan.

The first season was released six years ago (I feel so old again) so this is also the perfect time to get to know this series. You can watch from season 1, episode one to 15 and watch the season 2  right away, swear! The manga is still ongoing up to this date.

2. Fuuka

Synopsis: Yuu, a transfer student, is a shy young man. He can’t take his hands of his smartphone, because he’s always checking Twitter! Fuuka, a girl who goes at her own pace and is a bit all over the place but still draws people to her, doesn’t have a mobile phone. Koyuki, Yuu’s childhood friend and a popular singer, reconnects with Yuu on Twitter. A love that starts because there’s signal, and a love that starts because there’s no signal. In the middle of summer, a love triangle begins!!

Genres: Music, Drama, Romance, Ecchi, School, Shounen

My Reviews/Thoughts: If you want some romance and harem feels this one is pasok sa banga! (right in the jar!) But if you are the type who really dislikes love triangle then this is not for you. The music and the art is promising, plus I haven’t read the manga yet so I’m looking forward on what ship will sail :))

3. Gabriel Drop Out

Synopsis:  Chief Angel has come to Earth! However, she became so used to the life on Earth that she skips school and keeps playing online games, thus into self-destruction. It’s a school comedy that Gabriel turns into a lazy angel!

Genres:Comedy, Supernatural, School, Shounen

My Reviews/Thoughts: Now, if we have Ao no Exorcist second season which involves demons, this one is a funny series in which Gabriel a very diligent angel on mission here on Earth was distracted because of video games. I swear, this is a LOL anime, we have a Gabriel in us!

4. Kuzu no Honkai

Synopsis:  To the outside world, Hanabi Yasuraoka and Mugi Awaya are the perfect couple. But in reality, they just share the same secret pain: they are both in love with other people they cannot be with. Hanabi has loved her childhood friend and neighbor Narumi Kanai for as long as she can remember, so she is elated to discover that he is her new homeroom teacher. However, Narumi is soon noticed by the music teacher, Akane Minagawa, and a relationship begins to blossom between them, much to Hanabi’s dismay.

Mugi was tutored by Akane in middle school, and has been in love with her since then. Through a chance meeting in the hallway, he encounters Hanabi. As these two lonely souls spend more time together, they decide to use each other as a substitute for the one they truly love, sharing physical intimacy with one another in order to stave off their loneliness.

Genres: Drama, Romance, School, Seinen, SMUT WARNING

My Reviews/Thoughts: Kurot sa puso, puno ng hugot anime. Warning, smut and very R18 for me, not for the faint hearted, there’s Yuri and love scenes, it’s not really suitable for kids and some scened are really heavy. Infairness with the animation, thumbs up!

5. Masamune-kun no Revenge

Synopsis: As a child, Masamune Makabe once suffered greatly at the hands of a wealthy and beautiful girl named Aki Adagaki, who nicknamed him “Piggy” due to his chubby appearance. Seeking revenge against his tormentor, Masamune works hard to improve himself and returns as an incredibly handsome, albeit narcissistic, high school student. When he encounters Aki once again, he is prepared to exact vengeance.
With the aid of the rich girl’s maid, Yoshino Koiwai, Masamune slowly begins to build his relationship with Aki, intending to break her heart when the time is right. However, as his friendship with Aki begins to grow, Masamune starts to question the objectives of his devious plans, and if bringing them to fruition is what his heart truly desires.

Genres: Harem, Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen

My Reviews/Thoughts: When this series is not yet an aired this used to be my funny pill, the manga is just hilarious. Well, the  anime is awesome as well but I highly recommend to read the manga. It’s the “you’ve hurted I will revenge you” cheness, but there’s still a hint of harem so yeah.

So, that’s the titles I followed last Winter this year. I might add soon if I have the time to watch the other titles. If you have to recommend an anime last winter season that is not on my list, what is it and why? Feel free to use the comment section below.

SM City Cebu Cosplay Carnival Event Report | #SMCyberMonth

It's a whooping 50 cosplayers competed last  August 27, 2017 at SM City Cebu for Cosplay Carnival in celebration of Cyber Month.

One of the highlights of the event the advance screening of episode 6 of Safe Heaven--a low budget local TV series inspired by anime shows. Trailers of Overwatch, God of War, League of Legends and others are also shown before the main event.

Before the competition started, cosplayers strut their awesome costumes to mall goers at SM Cyberzone. Main theme of the event are video games characters.

Any Mobile Legends players out there?

The competition was hosted by Gary Montejo and Elizabeth von Kalm.

To finally starts the competition, Aquastaria--Love Live Sunshine Cosplay group rendered a super cute performance.

Junkrat from Overwatch

I know how it feels the annoyance of receiving notifications from this game on our FB messenger but look one fairy came to life from EVERWING during the event.

Out of 50 cosplayers who competed, the top 5 were chosen by judges.

5th Place: Richard Kean Leyson – Garland (Final Fantasy)

4th Place - Cheyenne Adamson – Mettaton (Undertale)

3rd Place - Kurk Mage Tan – Red Queen (Alice: Madness Returns)

2nd Place -  Paul Edgar Alfonte – Shay Patrick Cormac (Assassin’s Creed Rogue) and 1st Place - Bardge Restauro – Spider-Man (Marvel Future Fight)

--------------------------------------------------------------

It was a good way to spend my Sunday as I was only buying essentials and food. I know there's a bunch of Cosplay Events going on around but wasn't expecting there was one on that day. Nonetheless, I enjoyed everyone's performance. Though, I wasn't able to get the good spot to take pictures and videos.

Personal favorites are the Everwing cosplayers, Junkrat from Overwatch and unexpectedly, there's someone who cosplayed Nino Arisugawa from Fukumenkei Noise. So that's it for my event report. See you guys on my next event escapade!

Your Lie In April Live Action | Review and Feels

Your Lie in April or Shigatsu Wa Kimi no Uso Live Action film was released last year. It’s a story about a boy named Arima Kosei, a piano prodigy at a young age who always wins on all the piano competitions. Every child musicians knows him. But when his mother died, he had a mental breakdown and suddenly stops playing at the middle of a piano competition. The death of his mother has caused him not to hear music anymore even though his ears are perfectly fine. He psychologically acquired a hearing illness. Years later, she met the girl under the full-bloomed cherry blossoms who changed his life, Miyazono Kaori!

Kaori is a lively, pretty, free-spirited violinist who plays the way her personality reflects her. She made Arima played the piano again and led him back to the world of music and discovered that there is more to following every notes written on the score but rather playing by your heart on the stage being you.

This series has a very special place in my heart. I already poured my heart out writing a review about this when the manga ended and the anime series was still ongoing. I’ll be grabbing some points on my previous post but this will still be my impression with regards to the Live Action version.
The first frame of the anime and the live action are the same. It shows the blooming cherry blossom that gives off a very spring vibe, the season where the story starts.

I am not the type who compares from version to version. The manga is awesome in its entirety while the anime added surreal feelings. The live action itself is perfect in its own way. My goal here is just to point out the differences I have observed, it doesn’t reflect any views.

For me, the manga and anime has the most feels when it comes to love. I felt more love on manga and anime. In the live action I think it focuses more on the friendship. I think it was really hard to squeeze all the development that happened each character on the manga to the live action, so it’s really acceptable. I don’t know if the actors knew how to play but they are awesome on their instruments. It looks and feel so real.

Speaking of actors, I know how Yamazaki Kento is like everywhere, he’s been up to a lot of live action adaptation but I can’t get enough of him. One Yamazaki Kento, onegai. He’s a perfect Kosei. He played his character well.

With Kaori’s actress, Suzu Hirose, I thought that Kaori’s soul was with her. I’ve known her when she played one of my best heroine, Chihaya of Chihaya Furu. She’s a really versatile actress so no doubt she captured Kaori’s character well. Anna Ishii as Tsubaki is the bomb. She is like character straight out of the manga, the number, the character, her beauty is perfect. Taishi Nakagawa as Watari is awesome too. Hes handsome as Watari.

Overall, it was nonetheless a good adaptation even if some characters were not shown like Aizawa Takeshi and Emi Igawa. It brings the same lessons to me. Same sad feeling of how it ends. Same message it gives to the audience (or just my interpretation) which is to always be you. Play or do things with all your heart without minding the people around you, never do things half-heartedly because you will never know what might happen, what if the chances of redoing it will never come. Live everyday as if its your last day because you will never know what tomorrow brings. Cliché but its true. Do what you love, theres no excuse in doing what you really love. If theres a will, theres a way. No matter how frail your body is, even if your body is giving up but your mind and soul are pushing you, move forward.

--------------------------------------

I highly recommended Your Lie in April Live Action Adaptation not only for the fans of the anime but to everyone. Emotion stirring story!

5 REASONS WHY WOLF CHILDREN IS A MUST-SEE ANIME FILM

BUY A COPY ON FUNIMATION HERE: Wolf Children Movie Blu-ray & DVD

Wolf Children (Japanese: おおかみこどもの雨と雪 / Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki / “Wolf Children Ame and Yuki”) is a 2012 Japanese animated film directed and co-written by Mamoru Hosoda. The film stars the voices of Aoi Miyazaki, Takao Osawa, Haru Kuroki and Yukito Nishii. The story follows a young mother who is left to raise two werewolf children after their werewolf father dies.

Wolf Children had its world premiere in Paris on June 25, 2012, and was released theatrically on July 21, 2012 in Japan. It is licensed by Funimation Entertainment in North America and was released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 23, 2013. It was screened in the UK at the end of October 2013 with a DVD and Deluxe Blu-ray/DVD edition from Manga Entertainment following on December 23, 2013.

After watching this masterpiece, I decided to list down the reason why you guys should watch this anime film.

1. REMARKABLE STORY TELLING

The sequence of the scenes were so stunning. The transition of the story is perfect. The story is utterly natural. No magical items or tradition nor fate and destiny denying scenes or any complicated whatsoever.

2. TENDER TALE WITH A MATURE THEME

Cute little children wolves are just so adorable you just want to swallow them whole yet in a serious note, the film is has some dark parts that become very heart-wrenching and would lead you to the feels land.

3. RELATABLE AND TOUCHING LIFE LESSONS

Every story has a lot of lessons to impart to the audience. This anime film will not only leave you sniffing but it will also give you a lot of lessons such as coming of age, single motherhood, resiliency, embracing your roots and acceptance of who you really are.

4. OUTSTANDING ANIMATION AND VISUALS

Seen a lot of awesome animation/visuals in anime films and Wolf Children is one of them. The artwork is simple but everything is photorealistically drawn and polish by a loving artist hands.

5. SHORT-LIVED ROMANCE AND EMOTIONAL CONTENT

Though the love story of Hana and the werewolf man was short and right after his death is where the story really starts, their story is simple and touching. Plus, the emotional scenes in the film amidst the adorable clips is two-thumbs up.

Bunos- The soundtrack, BG’s, score and music are also great! The ending song makes me wanna cry more.

Here’s the trailer:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This anime film is a delightful family drama not just for anime fans but for everyone as well. I totally recommend this and if you have watched this film, tell me your thoughts on the comment section and let’s pat each others back!

Detective Conan : The Crimson Love Letter | Anime Movie Review

Another full-length Detective Conan movie was just out this year, this time it focuses on the romance between Hattori Heiji, the Great High School Detective from West, Conan/Kudo’s rival and best friend and Toyama Kazuha, Heiji’s childhood friend (sweetheart). It also features the world of competitive Karuta. The movie is the 21st from the Detective Conan Franchise. The film title is, Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter.

Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter is directed by Kobun Shizuno and produced at TMS Entertainment. The film was released in Japan last April 25, 2017 and now showing on selected SM Cinemas in the Philippines just yesterday July 19, 2017. Detective Conan is an ongoing manga series by Gosho Aoyama. It was serialized on 1994 and going strong until now.

The movie is set in Osaka, Heiji’s hometown. It started with a bloody murder which apparently the culprit’s face was not just a black shadow, it was revealed right there. While Mori Kugori is preparing for the interview, and the whole gang was tagging along, except for Sonoko who managed to have some exposure but was sick during the movie, a bomb threat is called in, forcing an evacuation, to everyone at the TV station. As the bomb detonated at Nichiuri TV during a Karuta Competition that was being held and shot at the said TV studio. Heiji and Kazuha were stuck inside and were saved by Conan just in time but this time neither the culprit nor the reason/motive was shown on the incident.

Momiji as shown on the mangax

After the bombing, Conan and the gang met, Momiji Ooka, a Karuta champion who will be Kazuha’s love rival, she already appeared recently in the latest Detective Conan manga chapter. Momiji claimed she was Heiji’s fiancée. A string of fate brought Kazuha and Momiji to face each other in a Karuta competition. That leads to Kazuha taking an intensive Karuta training with Shizuka, Heiji’s mother, who was a former Queen.

As Conan and Heiji investigates further, together with the Kyoto Police Department about all the incidents that happened they will unveil the secret connected to the Karuta Competition and the root of it all (as usual).

As a huge fan, I did not miss to grab my tickets as soon I found out that they are showing it at the nearest SM Cinema on my area. Every year there’s always a movie and it gets cooler every year. Though, even if you haven’t caught up with the series or the manga, The Crimson Love Letter is definitely a stand-alone story.

As someone who followed the series for almost a decade, the movie did a great job to get viewers, hardcore fan or not, into the story. I noticed the introduction part which is always present on every movie, they matched the visuals to the theme. Contrary to plots, mystery and the solving the issue from previous DC movies, The Crimson Love Letter is the straightforward type. All the golden eggs were given out and pieces of puzzles are all there, as someone like me who followed this series for almost a decade, you’ll just have to be keen to know what was really going on BUT there were some parts that was hidden and unpredictable which is classified information, so I encourage you to watch it on the big screen. The plot of the movie was really for the characters developments.

I find the dialogues hilarious as well and very well written. I can hear fellow fangirls laughing out loud. The actions scenes was there and as usual, Conan and Heiji will always do the impossible, jumping from buildings to buildings and such.

What made me excited about this movie is the involvement of Karuta. From the time this movie was announced and saw the trailer, I know this movie will be a bomb. I felt all the Chihayafuru feels upon hearing some poem lines on this movie. Though it features Karuta, the movie was not generous enough to explain some terms and jargons about this competitive sport. Thanks to Chihayafuru, which was a really good series by the way, I can relate to all those Karuta terms and whatnot.
Major spoiler alert (highlight if you want to read): To be honest, I am not convinced that Kazuha could go to the championship match. If you have seen Chihayafuru, Karuta is really not that easy. And for Kazuha to win those matches she must be a genius and the Karuta Gods are with her during all the matches.
Anyway, to sum it all up, Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter is a very enjoyable, hilarious, rom-com to watch. If you are expecting that there’s SHINRAN moments, please don’t. I think this movie was really to highlight, HEIZUHA OTP. Since the movie was set in Heiji’s hometown, there a lot of kansai accents, eargasm, ah. There’s a live action version of Kazuha and Momiji at the credits, it was really short but looks so cool, look forward to it. Professor Agasa’s quiz is there. Always wait for the ending credits to finish, please. A true Detective Conan fan will wait for the movie or even an episode at the end.

-------------------------------------------------------------

To conclude and lesson learned, one should use always say the right words at the right time to avoid misunderstanding. It’s very logical but in relation to the movie as to why, see it for yourself. Let’s support and watch it legally so they will continue to screen our beloved anime movie specials here on the Philippines.
